Resources for Victims of Violence

The American Psychological Association defines “violence” as an extreme form of aggression. In 2021, the United States saw 1.3 million cases of violent crime, but the real number is likely much higher as some cases go unreported or undiscovered. Below are resources to help those who find themselves as victims of various forms of violence as well as those who support them.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline

The National Domestic Violence Hotline offers free, confidential, and compassionate services from trained advocates along with crisis intervention, education, and referrals in over 200 languages.

Call 800-799-7233 or text START to 88788 to reach this hotline.

National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma & Mental Health

The National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma, & Mental Health provides training and assistance to the advocates and providers who work with survivors. If you’re looking for an organization that can help you understand the social justice issues of domestic violence, trauma, and mental health, you can find resources through NCDVTMH.

National Sexual Assault Hotline

Every 68 seconds, someone is sexually assaulted in the United States. RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. They offer victim services, public education, consulting, training, and public policy.

You can reach their hotline 24/7 by calling 800-656-4673. The hotline is anonymous, confidential, and available in English and Spanish.

National Center for Victims of Crime
